More meat on the bone

Trust me, I'm a cultist. I love the HPL genre. If you are even here reading this, you could do worse than purchase this useful set if items. If you simply love the stories, the booklet and postcard photos will add to your mental picture. Oh, and the map. If you care about the man himself, then those items (and the map) will help your understanding. If you roleplay and, like me, like characters in depth, with wallets and pockets full of period bits like tourist guides, bus tickets, wallets and so on, this set will help. Oh, and the map, too.
I would buy this set just for the map, and then look at the other bits and celebrate the bonus. But the period map - which appears, much smaller, in "Night Black Deeds" - is a treasure. Maybe for historic, or nostalgic reasons, but some of us, whether planning an RPG or toying with a story idea set in the town, will love the detail of knowing lot numbers and locations of key buildings. I swear, an image search for "Providence 1930" could lead to a whole project, creating "Google Street View 1930", using this map.
To put it more succintly - this set is worth owning. It's fun, and it's fascinating.

Such a wonderful set, I would have loved the pdfs of the modules though.

I bought this set a s a gift for my Dad, he bought the original when he was just a bit younger then me, and I run the game all the time so I thought it'd be a nice surprise. Both of us are just blown away by the quality of everything, there's so much there! Of course I got it along with the props to complete the experience and I highly recommend doing the same if you're considering it.

The only gripe I have is that, since I want my father to keep the box set over at his house for display, I need to buy pdfs of the included campaigns and scenarios as they don't come with this set, that's a bit of a bummer.

A gateway to other dimensions

I thought I knew the old gent's works. Certainly, "The Shunned House" was a staple, both the book and the DART episode. Then, one day, I found a thing on my doorstep, a delivery of "Night-Black Deeds".
I browsed it, then had to stop. I was wasting good reading time - and went back to the beginning, savouring every word. It was academic. It was art. All in one.
I compare it to visiting an aged but familiar relative who has always been there, and one day, as an adult, you realise how many relatives they had, some of them famous, and what momentous events they lived through, and how different and even adventurous their times were. I know more about the old gent now. I know the streets of Providence a little better. I know the economics of moving an old house and why a sailboat appeared in a main street. And who knew about that peculiar scientist, next door? I couldn't pass by a single footnote or skip through a single section. The House is now real to me.
Full credit to the team who produced it. And by the way, it's a real book, nice cover, quality paper, and well illustrated, none of your pixels on a device in a plastic carapace! If we see the original story as the bare bones, this volume adds generous serves of meat.

One of the very best adaptations of Lovecraft's suspenseful tale of rumor haunted Innsmouth.
