Everything about this movie is a creepy delight, the actors, the story, the cinematography, the musical score. It faithfully captures the surreality, eerie, and dare I say it, the eldritch ambience of Lovecraft.
The black & white noir-ish style of the film captures the disturbing essence of the original story, and improves on it, by adding a much needed “third act” to wrap up the story, in a fashion Lovecraft would have approved. The retro-1930s look draws the viewer in, and the classic effects are much better than the more modern CGI work that does appear.
Every performer, no matter how few lines, absolutely sell their characters, especially the actor playing Hannah, who turn in a performance worthy of Newt in “Aliens”.
I would love to have seen more from these filmmakers and cast.
