"It was just a colour out of space -
a frightful messenger from unformed realms
of infinity beyond all Nature as we know it"

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre®: The Colour Out of Space brings Lovecraft's tale to life as it might have been adapted for radio in the 1930s. In the style of The War of the Worlds, The Shadow and other classic vintage radio plays, Dark Adventure Radio Theatre® dramatizes HPL's story with a huge cast of professional actors, exciting sound effects and thrilling original music by Troy Sterling Nies (composer for The Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in Darkness).

The impact of a meteorite on a remote Massachusetts farm unleashes a strange and disturbing series of events. Before men of science from Miskatonic University can determine what it is, the space rock apparently evaporates. But terrible changes overtake the farm and its inhabitants, propelling them on a horrific course of desolation, madness, and death. The sole witness to the event unwinds a chilling and disturbing tale of cosmic horror. On many occasions, Lovecraft described this story as his favorite of his tales.

In addition to the full 77 minute radio drama on CD, you'll get these carefully made props from the story to enhance your listening experience:

• The work order initiating construction of the Mattapan Reservoir in 1928

• Professor Lamb's rebuttal to the Chairman of the Geology Department

• A photo of the meteorite crater from the Boston Daily Advertiser in 1882

• The last will and testament of Nahum Gardner

These great props are complemented by the fantastic artwork of illustrator Darrell Tutchton in the style you've come to know and love from other episodes of Dark Adventure Radio Theatre®. The CD edition includes a free digital download of the show too.

The cover art is available on shirts and other fun items in our Redbubble store!

Or Download Now. You can skip the props and CD, and download a high-quality MP3 of the show right now and be enjoying it in just a few minutes. It's available as a single audio file or a collection of multiple chapter files. It's eco-friendly, with no shipping or tax charges!

It Pizened The Whole Place...

I originally bought this guy on audible. After listening to this most amazing story I thought it would be best if I bought the physical copy. I love this story it is my favorite Lovecraft story, and this radio drama is absolutely amazing, its well acted and a real fun blast to listen too!

“Colour Out of Space” was the first Lovecraft story I ever read (albeit titled “Monster of Terror”, as it was in an anthology of tales on which certain horror movies had been based). I was 14, and knew nothing of its author. Reading around the 3rd edition “Call of Cthulhu” role-playing game more than a decade later, I rediscovered the tale, and learnt the lasting impact its power, strangeness and increasingly creepy atmosphere had had on me. It remains my favourite. I still get an anticipatory frisson at the words, “West of Arkham the hills rise wild...”, so was delighted they’d been cleverly preserved in this excellent audio production. As others have amply indicated previously, the whole is a splendidly faithful reworking of the story, losing none of those strengths I recognised long ago. Having found the HPLHS through its prop sets, I had to opt for the “full” version with props, which add deliciously to the whole experience. I love the sleeve artwork that tries to capture the Colour itself, and would suggest buyers seek out also the PDF full-script download and other notes on this DART production elsewhere on the HPLHS site. Highly recommended.

Another terrific production

This is my third purchase, and it is yet another terrific production!
