It's Back! Ceremonial Mask Artifact

In the new 7th edition version of Chaosium's legendary Call of Cthulhu® campaign Masks of Nyarlathotep, the story kicks off with a prologue set in the Peruvian highlands. There, insightful investigators may discover an artifact of remarkable capabilities: The Golden Mirror.

At the HPLHS, we believe that great props make for great gaming. Every now and again, we're able to make a prop available that will take your gaming to the next level. This is one of those. Originally created as a part of our Super Deluxe Masks set, we made a few extra of these and they're now available. Designed and manufactured in collaboration with our friends at Type 40 in Australia, The Golden Mask will blow your players' minds.

In the campaign, it's described as "a stylized face, largely made up of blocky geometrical shapes raised from the surface and is solid with no eye-holes". Well that's just what you get. Designed to be evocative of motifs from the Tiwanaku people of western Bolivia, this ceremonial mask looks and feels like it could be a hefty hunk of solid gold, polished to a dramatic shine. The back is flat and smooth as described in the game.

"How hefty is it?" you ask? It weighs roughly 2.25 lbs (that's 1028g for the rest of the world). It's made of a nickel alloy with an electroplated finish. It's 6 x 5.5 x .5 inches (15.25 x 14 x 1.25 cm).  To make it even more fun, it ships in a hand-knitted Peruvian bag, inside a excelsior-filled box with a label from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (the Miskatonic of Peru).

Use it when you run your Masks campaign or in your own LARP game. Heck, just put it on your shelf because it looks cool. It's hard not to feel like Indiana Jones when you have one of these in your collection.

Wow! 2D6 SAN loss!

I opened the box and, nestled amid the straw, was a Peruvian-style drawstring bag, inside of which was a heavy golden metal plaque, cast into the likeness of a stylized face. I picked it up to examine it, and it was *cold*, as though it had rested for unknowable aeons in the lifeless space between the distant stars.

Reeling from the implications I hurriedly replaced the plaque in its bag and returned it to the straw-lined box from which I had foolishly drawn it this cursed morning.

Later, as I sat shivering in my favourite chair with a cup of hot tea and attempted to steady my shattered nerves, it occurred to me that the parcel had been delivered early in the morning and had sat outside in the cold for an hour before my wife had retrieved it.

Cannot recommend highly enough.

I have bought a number of items from HPLHS, and have never been remotely displeased. Each and every item, ranging from netsukes, newspapers, prop collections for Chaosium games, the Golden Mirror, the Eye of Light and Darkness, the Innsmouth Combo -- the quality of every single item I've bought has exceeded the descriptions and photos. I simply do not have the words to convey how these pieces fulfill their purpose, and more. My only real regret is that I do not have the kind of disposable income to buy the Angell Box, and my only fear is that someday my wife may discover how much I have spent on what are, ultimately, toys.

But they are glorious toys! If you are on the fence on any item HPLHS sells, rest assured that what you receive is worth every penny of what they charge, and more. Never fret that it won't live up to the description or the photos; it will surpass your expectations. You will be delighted. I have given most of the artifacts that I have bought to my players, and they are in complete awe of each and every one.

What an awesome prop!

This prop is nice and heavy with an ultra reflective finish. Like an ancient golden relic uncovered in Peru. Nice job!

Just plain awesome.

So hefty my players were hesitant to open the box. Once they got it out they refused to touch it with their bare hands, handling it, very carefully, with a handkerchief. When one player flipped it over and saw her reflection I made her make a POW roll, which she blew—and so they hastily packed it back up.

I'm so Happy!

When I got my GPS last year, my only regret was not having 2 specific props out of the Deluxe Edition. Imagine my excitement when, on Thanksgiving, I get and email from the HPLHS saying that those two props, the golden Mirror and Eye of Light and Darkness were being put up for individual sale!! I had barely finished dinner when I placed my order..

Today, I got a package in the mail. Inside were 2 boxes.. both with official looking labels and well packed. The Mirror comes in a nice drawstring bag and is a lively weighty piece. It is LEGIT! I almost don't want my players to touch it because I don't want to mess up the mirror finish.. I knew, from my previous purchase, that HPLHS quality is incredible.. and this does not disappoint. https://i.imgur.com/hODppQe.jpeg.
