Lovecraft short films

I have all of the available dvds (from 2018-2021) so I’ll cover the reviews for all here in this section, some of these are hit and miss , but overall if you’re a true Lovecraft fan and HPLHS supporter you should check them all out

Pleasantly Surprised!

This was my first foray into the HPL Film Festival DVDs and I anticipate purchasing more. The films were hit and miss, as would be expected. But the hits were solid hits! There was a mixture of humor, seriousness, adaptations and weirdness. There is even a film or two suitable for kids (and one that is definitely NOT and comes with a warning at the end that there is graphic nudity).

The highlight for me was Backwoods, a relatively faithful retelling of The Picture on the Wall by HPL. The Last Incantation, an Clark Ashton Smith offering, was nearly at the top of my list but was edged out by the great performances in Backwoods. But the film that really had me thinking for days afterwards was Maw.
