Fruits of the Raid on Innsmouth

The companion book to "The Starry Wisdom Library," which has been in the works for seven years: "The Dagon Collection."  The anthology is once again presented as a fake auction catalogue, however this time it is 1929, shortly after the events in "The Shadow Over Innsmouth." The feds have just raided the Esoteric Order of Dagon Lodge. Now they've contracted with Pent & Serenade, Occult Auctioneers, to sell the items secured in the raid.  In addition to books, this auction also features weaponry, art, jewelry, nautical items, textiles, and objects both strange and prosaic once owned by the Dagon cult. The design skills of Andrew Leman of H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society have brought the catalogue to life in all its 1920s period glory. Rebecca Baumann of the University of Indiana provided the cataloging of the objects.  Liv Rainey-Smith and Eduardo Valdes-Hevia contributed illustrations. Leading voices in horror and Lovecraftian fiction again contributed stories, including F. Paul Wilson, Jesse Bullington, John Langan, Gemma Files, Livia Llewellyn, Michael Cisco, Nick Mamatas, Ramsey Campbell, Selena Chambers, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and, in a bittersweet note, Joseph S. Pulver, Sr. (to whom the book is dedicated), in what may be his final unpublished story.

Absolutely Delicious

Pent & Serenade surpassed themselves with this catalogue. In the past, the catalogues focused on academic aspects of their offerings (see, for example, their catalogue of the collection of the Starry Wisdom cult), but thus catalogue details the stories behind the objects. My only regret is that they failed to include more photographs. Should they ever recover the lost plates to the fabled J.M. Spears' "Cults and Mysteries of the East" rumored to have been destroyed in the fire that consumed the Miskatonic Press in 1892, I pray HPLHS will cooperate with P&S to produce a facsimile for readers to peruse.

Born to late to participate.

This book is like the Starry Wisdom auction book. It has a lot of really cool items from the raid on Innsmouth in the late 1920s. A must have for anyone who loves The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

Just Buy It

From the beginning of the Mythos, forbidden tomes have played a prominent part in the lore, usually providing a path to damnation for those foolish enough to peruse their contents. Here have not a real-life tome of Eldritch lore, but rather an auction catalog with detailed descriptions of many of them. If your thoughts about these repositories of Things Man was Not Meant to Know could use some stepped-up tangibility, this is for you. And anyone interested in the genre, especially tabletop role-players, will absolutely love this.

This review is for The Dagon Collection auction catalog book. I was very satisfied with this volume as I have been with my other purchases of books, props and other items from HPLHS. A lot of thought and effort was given when putting this work together and it shows. Keep up the good work, guys.
