Celebrate Providence Lovecraft-Style

The Providence Pack celebrates Lovecraft's Providence with some fun replica documents from his days. They include:

  • a full-color, full-scale (20 x 28 inches) replica of the vintage Sanborn Map Company view of Lovecraft's own College Hill neighborhood in Providence, including many sites that will be familiar to Lovecraft enthusiasts, and augmented with the location of the actual Shunned House
  • a typographic recreation of The Charm of Providence, a Providence tourism booklet of the era (updated to include the Shunned House itself)
  • two postcards replicating 1920s designs showing notable sights of the city

The collection is presented in a high-quality, custom envelope.

Little pieces of Lovecraftian Atmosphere

The map is a treasure. The booklet is a recreation that has had a great deal of effort in reproducing the feel of the time. The postcards are good looking, but the least of the items in here.

Kickstarter bonus

Got this as part of the The Shunned House kickstarter campaign. Absolutely stunning content, as always from the HPLHS and Helios House!

A Stunning Pack

I received this pack as part of the rewards from "The Shunned House: Recluse Replica" KickStarter.
The postcards are fun period pieces, very well reproduced and printed. "The Charm of Providence" tourist booklet is a nice addition to the pack detailing some of the notable sites in Providence and its environs. The addition of details for 'the Shunned House' itself is a nice touch.
Without a doubt the star of this pack is the reproduction map which details the 'College Hill' neighbourhood of Providence. This map is huge and so detailed that it could be framed and hung on the wall, or used in a Role-playing game.
All in all, I'm extremely impressed with the quality and its versatility.

More meat on the bone

Trust me, I'm a cultist. I love the HPL genre. If you are even here reading this, you could do worse than purchase this useful set if items. If you simply love the stories, the booklet and postcard photos will add to your mental picture. Oh, and the map. If you care about the man himself, then those items (and the map) will help your understanding. If you roleplay and, like me, like characters in depth, with wallets and pockets full of period bits like tourist guides, bus tickets, wallets and so on, this set will help. Oh, and the map, too.
I would buy this set just for the map, and then look at the other bits and celebrate the bonus. But the period map - which appears, much smaller, in "Night Black Deeds" - is a treasure. Maybe for historic, or nostalgic reasons, but some of us, whether planning an RPG or toying with a story idea set in the town, will love the detail of knowing lot numbers and locations of key buildings. I swear, an image search for "Providence 1930" could lead to a whole project, creating "Google Street View 1930", using this map.
To put it more succintly - this set is worth owning. It's fun, and it's fascinating.
