Dr. Seuss collides hysterically with H.P. Lovecraft's masterpiece of cosmic horror, "The Call of Cthulhu" in this new illustrated book by R.J. Ivankovic.

The most merciful thing in the world, I believe is humanity's failure to fully conceive the cosmical horrors we've yet to reveal, and which up until now I have tried to conceal. The iconic H.P. Lovecraft 1928 story, The Call of Cthulhu, is now a children's book. Seamlessly and gracefully told in anapestic tetrameter by "genius poet-artist" RJ Ivankovic. The late Professor Angell's research has been discovered by his grand-nephew, Francis Wayland Thurston. Francis delves into the papers and discovers a bas-relief depicting an odd creature with an octopoid head, spurring him to read on. He learns of the raid led by Inspector Legrasse and the voyage of the Vigilant, captained by Gustaf Johansen. This glorious full color 102-page adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story was written and illustrated by R.J. Ivankovic.

This was amazing

Sat down and read this book to my wife who has never read Call of Cthulhu or any Lovecraft and she enjoyed it which is a great success and just about as positive a review as I could give.

Superlative. Almost Perfect.

I consider this an adaptation of the original story into a new medium; given how many changes have to be made to morph Lovecraft into Dr. Suess, I'm quite confident and comfortable proceeding along those lines.

And HOLY AZATHOTH, they absolutely NAILED it. The ONLY reason I don't call this Perfect, is because of my personal conviction that Perfection is an impossible ideal that can't physically exist in this universe; if not for that, I WOULD call this perfect. Literally EVERY PAGE has something to love. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll screech in unholy insanity and terror. This is beyond First Rate work- this takes the Rating to Negative territory well past Zero, or perhaps takes it off the Real Number Plane entirely and goes Complex/Imaginary. I will literally cherish this book for the rest of my life, and no, I am NOT exaggerating in saying that. This is brilliant.

Check out the equally superlative Suess-adapted Dagon, also. You won't regret it.

Fantastic illustrated retelling

I purchased this at GenCon a few years back, and I love it! It's a faithful retelling of the original story, and the illustrations are absolutely perfect. I plan to pick up "Dagon for Beginning Readers" as well.
