Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu in a 1930s-style radio drama. In Dark Adventure Radio Theatre's first wholly original episode, Inspector Legrasse stumbles onto a case which may be connected to the Cthulhu cult he and his men broke up nearly twenty years before. Once again he leads an investigation which takes him into the foreboding bayous of Louisiana. Will he again be pitted against deranged cultists and the abominations they worship, or has he found something even more evil and insidious?

The CD edition features the 72-minute show plus a collection of props to enhance your listening experience. They include:

  • an article from the New Orleans Times-Picayune covering Legrasse's successful raid against the swamp cult
  • an arrest report from the New Orleans Police Department
  • a page from an unholy book of secret rituals
  • a powerful relic of New Orleans voodoo

All of these great extras are complemented by the fantastic artwork of illustrator Darrell Tutchton in the style you've come to know and love from other episodes of Dark Adventure Radio Theatre®.

A Truly Gripping Tale!

When approaching DART productions drawn from Lovecraft’s own writings, and those of other pulp-published authors, it’s common for many of us to have read the tales in advance. Unavoidably, those radio versions have less impact through prior familiarity. With adventures such as “The White Tree”, specially created only as DART features, that first listen-through can have much greater effect, thanks to its immediacy. Here, we have a beautifully-constructed addition to the lore regarding one of Lovecraft’s own characters, presented as a thrilling radio show, much in the manner of real-world fictional adventures and serials on radio and at the cinema during the 1920s and 30s. It’s lively, holds the attention, and with a little imagination, you can see it all in your mind’s eye! The props definitely assist further in this visualisation, with three directly linked to the story, while the fourth covers the backstory of the earlier cult raid by Inspector Legrasse into the swamps from “The Call of Cthulhu”. One prop shows the layout for the climactic events, while another provides an important element involved in those. Together, this all makes for one very impressive, tautly-bound, package!

One of their best

I've been quite the fan of Dark Adventure Radio Theater for some time, but have mostly engaged with the older works and those based on the stories directly. I decided it was time to jump in, having just re-listened to The Call of Cthulhu recently, and noticing that this was something of a "sequel".

I think this is one of their best works yet (I still have the greatest fondness for The Shadow Over Innsmouth). Not just as a radio show, but their approach to the history of Lovecraft as a writer and person, and handling of the subject matter was excellent.

I highly recommend grabbing this one.

The story and acting are always superb, I love the tie ins with The Call of Cthulhu. The props make it way more immersive while you are listening.

I can't believe this wasn't penned by the man himself

I was interested to hear an original tale and this one is fantastic. I has listened to the DART adaptation of Call of Cthulhu and then straight onto The White Tree. I love the continuation of Inspector Legrasse hunt for answers and this story does it brilliantly. I would love to hear more original tales which continue HPL's stories. Top job from HPLHS.
