Staggeringly Beautiful Horror

We have become huge fans of the French illustrator François Baranger. His illustrated versions of At the Mountains of Madness and The Call of Cthulhu are brimming with breathtaking imagery. His latest work to come to English is Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror.

His hyper-realistic style look like lavish storyboards for a mega-budget motion picture of the story. The artwork is both bold and nuanced. Really, there's nothing not to like here. The story is reproduced in full and laid over these fantastic and eerie paintings.

The book is a large format hardback, 14 x 10.5 inches. The print quality is superlative. Really, if you're into Lovecraftian art, you'll want a copy of this. NOTE: the open pages shown here are from the French edition. The edition we're selling is in English. Both feature the same artwork.

Does the English edition contain the full text of the story ?

A feeling of inclusion.

I think HPLHS is concerned about treating people who visit the store well. I purchased a lifetime membership not only for the fabulous regalia but because I feel a part of something. Everything was done lovingly, whether it was NecromoniCon in Providence in '22 or the several things I purchased over the years, HPLHS cares about what they're doing. And all of it draws me deeper into the stories, which never disappoint.

Exactly what I was expecting, good packaging, fast (4 days and I'm in EU)

They've done it again!

Purchased to enhance an outfit to attend a 1920s murder mystery party. The peice is very nice looking, easy to use, and another fun trinket to use with The Dog Walker role play scenario. I am quite happy with the product. It's size is smaller than I had thought it would be, but then again I don't frequently see or use pocket watches so perhaps that is on me. I appreciate the chain options as well. I used the clip to fasten to a vest and it held well and passed a drop test. Great product.

Great films (The Call of Cthulhu 2005, The Whisperer in Darkness 2011)

Loved the cinematography especially in Whisperer in Darkness, also enjoyed CoC being a film that looks 100 years old, really gives it a sense of atmosphere we might not be able to see with a more contemporary approach. Andrew Leman and Sean Branney are legends and they should make plenty more Lovecraft adaptations and maybe some more original films to honour the legacy of Lovecraft, Chambers, Lumley, etc.
