The Deluxe Sonia Greene Autobiography

Businesswoman, milliner, writer, publisher, patroness—known to many as the woman who was married to famed ‘weird fiction’ writer H.P. Lovecraft—Sonia Haft Greene Lovecraft Davis was a woman of many names because she lived a rich and fascinating life. Scholar and editor Monica Wasserman, working with Helios House Press, is delighted to be publishing a beautiful case-bound (hardcover) edition of Sonia’s autobiography, Two Hearts That Beat as One, sharing Sonia's story in her own words, accompanied by a plethora of photos and papers from her archives, and with a foreword by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society.

These case-bound (hardcover) books will be printed in full colour on high-quality art paper, and Smythe-sew for durability and lay-flat convenience. Our Standard Edition book features a quarter-bound hardcover with gold foil details. The Collector’s Edition is presented in a handsome slipcase, and comes with a tipped-in page signed by the editor and a small extra gift reproduction of a note from H.P. Lovecraft to Sonia.

How Deep Do You Want to Go

If you are here you are probably a Lovecraft nerd, so the question remains, how big a nerd do you want to be? His relationship with Sonia, their interesting courtship and ill-fated marriage, is one of the great Lovecraft mysteries, complete with deliberately destroyed evidences and a conspiracy of silence. Finally we have a new glimpse into this tantalising area of Lovecraft's most personal life. Wasserman's approach, blending different sources in the text is an excellent means to keep the flow of the narrative, with an inspired choice to colour-code the sources to give perspective without interruption. Lovecraft, as he does with almost all his friends and acquaintances, overshadows whenever he appears but Wasserman keeps the focus and interest in Sonia alive and vibrant in her own right. The extensive timeline, notes, and profuse images keep the work from being over dry or annoyingly obtuse. I'm a Lovecraft guy and I had never seen many of these pictures in print before. It's a Helios House production, and as such is a beautiful work in it own right. I strongly advise going the whole hog and getting the slipcase edition, for both protection and aesthetic. Highly recommended.

Two Hearts that Beat as One: An Autobiography

Sonia Davis's principal fame derives from her middle marriage to H.P. Lovecraft but Monica Wasserman's meticulous editing of Sonia's autobiographical writings makes clear that the effort of this immigrant woman (who arrived at age two in 1892) to stake out a life for herself in the New World--a story which she shared with millions of other immigrant women--was the principal theme of her life.

Impressive Achievement!

I am well into my journey into Sonia’s life and am impressed with the obvious depth of research, the text's readability, and the overall design of the book and related ephemera.
Kudos to Ms. Wasserman, who has captured the zeitgeist of the era she has chronicled, and the Helios House design team for another impressive tome.
