The Soundtrack features the music as originally written by the Mr. Nies (and Nicholas Pavkovic who contributed one track to the score). The music is performed by the seldom-recorded Arkham Philharmonic Orchestra. If you enjoy the music in the movie, you will want to have this recording on CD.

"Whisperer" Roars!

The Whisperer in Darkness is a far more ambitious film than HPLHS' fine "Call of Cthulhu", and Troy Sterling Nies's score is a wonderful compliment to the fine filmmaking.

The music is often quite dense - Nies often "stacks" big chords in an almost James Bernard-like way - but for that reason, it is terrific to have the ability to listen to it independent of the movie. Fans of dramatic music and/or HPL should not hesitate.

N.B. I am reviewing the MP3 download, which I found to be outstanding for its clarity, spaciousness, and sonic punch. CD or MP3, do yourself a favor and listen to this on a good system (not just headphones)!

The sound of a whisper

Troy Sterling Nies' soundtrack to The Whisperer in Darkness is just as delightful as the film itself. I've listened to it several times by itself, and it truly stands up as a stand-alone piece of music, just as it works within the frame of the film.

Pretty much the best musical ever made.

Why can't they leave things buried

Listening to these adventures is always a delight. It pleases the senses hearing the adventured played over my radio gives me the sense of listening to a serial as it was meant to played. The acting is beyond reproach! If ever these are transcribed to actual movies just tell me where to send the money! Also, love the props as my binders are now at near capacity!

Like everything from HPLHS, they are stunning.

The Cat of Ulthar

I could not pass up the opportunity to enrich my cat figurines collection with an Ultharian cat, contentedly reposing on a picked clean skull. He is beautiful! Well made with great detail. Great conversation starter. I explained to my husband, 'this is a cat of Ulthar, and THAT (the skull) is all that's left of someone who was cruel to the cats of Ulthar.' Any questions?
