Celebrate Providence Lovecraft-Style

The Providence Pack celebrates Lovecraft's Providence with some fun replica documents from his days. They include:

  • a full-color, full-scale (20 x 28 inches) replica of the vintage Sanborn Map Company view of Lovecraft's own College Hill neighborhood in Providence, including many sites that will be familiar to Lovecraft enthusiasts, and augmented with the location of the actual Shunned House
  • a typographic recreation of The Charm of Providence, a Providence tourism booklet of the era (updated to include the Shunned House itself)
  • two postcards replicating 1920s designs showing notable sights of the city

The collection is presented in a high-quality, custom envelope.

Not Shunned: Providential

High-quality period props and maps are a staple product from the HPLHS, and so it is again here, concentrating on Lovecraft’s beloved hometown, in postcard views, the Chamber of Commerce booklet Lovecraft sent to at least one of his correspondents, and a map of part of the College Hill area of the city, with locations noted for the Shunned House of that story, the former colonial-period burial ground to its west, and Cheapside, a near-waterfront district that features in other Lovecraft tales set in Providence. Those with the props pack from the DART audio production for the HPLHS’ “Shunned House” radio show, will recognise the map, as part of it was included there. This version though is complete, and printed on much finer, heavier, paper stock. The DART props add still more to this set, and to the separate “Night-Black Deeds” volume, as well as even the full Whipple Edition boxed set for the Shunned House story, making a very grand whole for those who wish to indulge most fully in this story’s potential. As a Kickstarter backer, this Pack came with my other Shunned House items, but even on its own, it adds something fresh for anyone wanting to understand more of Lovecraft’s Providence of the 1920s and 30s.

The little things

A neat little plethora of postcards and whatnot. I find them to be beautifully illustrated.

Little pieces of Lovecraftian Atmosphere

The map is a treasure. The booklet is a recreation that has had a great deal of effort in reproducing the feel of the time. The postcards are good looking, but the least of the items in here.

Kickstarter bonus

Got this as part of the The Shunned House kickstarter campaign. Absolutely stunning content, as always from the HPLHS and Helios House!
