I first got ‘The Curious Sea Shanties of Innsmouth’ when I bought the fantastic Innsmouth combo that includes my favorite hoodie - an Esoteric Order of Dagon hoodie - and my beloved megalodon tooth with scrimshaw (no, the tooth is obviously not a real meg tooth because good luck getting one of them, a hoodie, membership card, and a CD plus monograph on said CD for only $115, you goof) which if you don’t already own that combo you should exit this page and go order the Innsmouth Combo. Seriously, go order the combo - it’s worth every penny. But I digress.
Unfortunately my current car doesn’t have a CD player and few new vehicles do, so I was no longer able to listen to this album other than when I use the entertainment center in my house. Not being able to listen to the songs while I’m in my car bugged me.
I have an iPhone but the album is unfortunately not available on iTunes or Apple Music. My laptop doesn’t have a disc drive so it’s not like I could ‘rip’ the songs and upload them to iTunes.
But today I decided to search to see if there were a way that I could put the album on my iPhone so I could listen to it when I’m in my car and thankfully I found an extremely easy to do so: download the MP3 file here, upload it to the Files app on iPhone, upload them to iCloud, and then download them to the phone itself and listen to them via the Files app. I’m not yet sure if that will work with the CarPlay system in my car but I’ll find out in an hour or so when I head to the store, but the songs all play via the Files app and they sound great.
I love sea shanties and I love the world created by H.P. Lovecraft so combining the two is a no-brainer for me. My personal favorite is the ‘Innsmouth Version’ of ‘Paddy Layback’ as that is one of my most favorite sea shanties next to the somber and wonderful sea shanty ‘Lowlands Away’, but every song on this album is fun and a pleasure to listen to. The team did a great job and if you like sea shanties and/or you’re a fan of Lovecraft (which you obviously are or you wouldn’t be reading this review in the first place) this should be a no-brainer for you so what are you waiting for? Put this album into your shopping cart and checkout!
Or, even better, go put the ‘Innsmouth Combo’ in your cart and buy that because $115 for this cd and monograph, a E.o.D. hoodie, the Tooth of Dagon, and your E.o.D. membership card is a heckuva great deal. If you’re seeking a gift for a family member or friend who loves the works and world of H.P. Lovecraft that combo would be one of the best presents that they could receive and they will love it. Don’t wait - just go buy it.
