Scepters of the Black Pharaoh

Chaosium's legendary Call of Cthulhu® campaign Masks of Nyarlathotep tells of diabolical cult leaders Shafik and Gavigan who wield the magical scepters of the Cult of the Black Pharaoh.

At the HPLHS, we believe that great props make for great gaming. Every now and again, we're able to make a prop available that will take your gaming to the next level. This is one of those. Originally created as a part of our Super Deluxe Masks set, we made a few extra of these and they're now available. Designed and manufactured in collaboration with our friends at Type 40 in Australia The Scepters of the Black Pharaoh will blow your players' minds.

The pieces are cast in solid bronze and the arms of the ankh are tipped with glass spheres. They come in their own custom-padded box with the seal of the Black Pharaoh burned directly into the wood, along with the cartouche of Edward Gavigan, leader of the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh. As described in the game, the inverted ankh and the flail are each roughly a foot long and weighs about two pounds. These, of course are merely for decorative, ceremonial and/or gaming purposes, but one gets the impression they could be weirdly formidable weapons.

In the Ancient Egyptian civilization, the royal scepters were symbols of the pharaoh's authority - a sort of royal seal. The scepters — called the heka and nekhakha (the crook and flail) in Ancient Egyptian — are often depicted on sarcophagi as being held crossed against the pharaoh's chest. This being Nyarlathotep's riff on that, it's a crook and an inverted ankh.

The scepters are roughly 12 inches long, and the box is roughly 13.5 x 6.5 x 4 inches.
